Restaurants & Bars

Shanghai’s world class entertainment venue has arrived. Top Golf worked closely with hcreates over the past 12 months to bring this state of the art 2,700 sqm space to life. The well-designed space, features 200 seats of restaurant dining, a sports bar, 2 open simulator bays, 4 vip rooms and a VVIP room with its own private bar, not to mention a nine-hole mini-golf course.

Topgolf needed the Shanghai venue to feel recognisably connected to the global brand while being accessible to customers encountering it for the first time. The programme ranged from active entertainment and open swing suites to a restaurant, bar and private VIP rooms, each demanding a different level of energy, privacy and atmosphere. The design therefore had to create a clear journey and a common visual language across a highly varied plan.

The planning turns a complex mix of activities into a legible social experience. High-energy zones, dining and private rooms each have their own character, but the movement, materials and curved forms connect them. The finished venue captures Topgolf’s emphasis on fun and entertainment while giving the Shanghai location a distinct identity of its own.

We looked to the art and heritage around People’s Square for a local design reference. The flowing movement of calligraphy informed curved forms through the interior, while the softer colours and textures of watercolour influenced the palette. Arrival begins through a darkened corridor that builds anticipation before opening onto the main hub, where a red bar curves up the wall and ceiling. Minigolf occupies the opposite side, with open swing suites between the two. From this central space, separate wings lead to a lighter, quieter restaurant and to darker VIP suites combining simulators, KTV, dining and lounge areas. Mesh, perforated steel, layered lighting and varied textures help define zones while keeping visual connections across the venue.
