With a refresh, we reopened the Shanghai nightlife legend -Shake. We rebuilt the venue from scratch. The dark plastered walls are softly lit, creating a textured backdrop for the deep red and orange banquettes and seating. We used timber veneers and marbles in retro tones, harking back to the supper club era, creating warmth and nostalgia. Live Music is back in full swing and the revamped kitchen now caters to a full fusion pre-show dining menu. Go and check it out!

The redesign needed to preserve the club’s identity for loyal guests while improving how it worked. A clearer stage, larger kitchen and more comfortable mix of dining and lounge seating were required so the venue could support both a fuller pre-show food offer and the live-music experience.

The layout was reworked around a raised stage and expanded kitchen, with VIP banquettes increasing seating while keeping sightlines toward the musicians. Curved velvet banquettes replace taller tables along the walls, creating more intimate pockets for dining and drinking. Existing brickwork is painted black and paired with softly lit dark plaster, while deep reds and oranges, retro timber veneers and marble bring back the warmth of classic supper clubs. Brass details, record references and acoustic elements reinforce the music-led identity, culminating in a large acoustic logo behind the stage under SHAKE’s signature purple light.
The refresh keeps the nostalgia without freezing the venue in the past. Operational changes make the room work harder for dining and performance, while the material palette and lighting retain the sense of familiarity that existing guests associate with SHAKE.
