The original dark English-pub interior needed to feel brighter and more contemporary without losing the robust, sociable character of a sports bar. Guests also needed clear views of screens from throughout the 591-square-metre venue, including the terrace and supporting spaces.

The renovation makes The Camel brighter, more connected and easier to use during major events. The material palette retains warmth and durability, while the open plan and screen strategy place the collective experience of watching sport at the centre of the venue.
The façade was opened up and full-height windows added at the rear to bring substantially more daylight into the plan. Geometric black-and-white tile, exposed brick, recycled timber, leather and brass replace the heavier pub palette with a more textured and contemporary material language. A double-sided central bar maintains views across the room, while large LED screens are positioned so sport can be followed from almost anywhere. The entrance now includes a comfortable terrace with its own screen, and even the men’s bathroom carries live coverage so guests do not miss key moments.
