hcreates worked in conjunction with the legendary three Michelin-starred chef Paul Pairet and his team to create the latest concept in IFC, Roodoodoo. Located in the heart of Shanghai financial district, this building is a central focal point in Lujiazui for businesspeople, shoppers and tourists alike. The concept is a true all-day experience that transitions from breakfast to evening,

The concept combines a bakery with dishes drawn from several of Pairet’s established restaurants, so the space had to support different rhythms throughout the day without feeling fragmented. The design also needed to give the new venue its own identity while connecting naturally to the French roots of the menu and the sleek urban context outside.

We described the design language as “Retro Sleek”: a mix of 1950s American diner references, industrial detailing and mid-century forms. Galvanized steel appears in shelving, lighting and furniture details, set against darker neutral tones, concrete counters, reflective surfaces and a metallic ceiling that echo the material character of Lujiazui. Those harder, more mechanical elements are softened with French references including the motif ceiling and black-and-cream ceramic tiles, together with pastel colour, warm timber, rounded cabinet fronts and an eclectic mix of furniture. The balance between polished and familiar became central to the space.

Roodoodoo feels contemporary without becoming formal. Industrial and reflective materials give it a crisp urban edge, while warmer details make it comfortable enough to settle into at any time of day. The result is an all-day venue that can shift with the menu, the crowd and the pace of IFC.
